And to celebrate two decades of Big Macs, Quarter Pounders and stick-thin fries in Mzansi, McDonald’s went way back to the beginning with a new store in Blackheath, Johannesburg.

Speaking at the unveiling of the new store next to the original one, McDonald’s SA CEO Greg Solomon said, “This building is more of the future of other McDonald’s stores to come. It’s more modern and contemporary.” With the new store up and running, the original McD’s store will soon be demolished.

So what did the fast-food joint with the catchy slogan “I’m lovin’ it” do to thank loyal Mzansi customers? It offered its signature meal, the Big Mac, at the 1995 launch price of R19,95!

Eager customers stood in long queues to get their hands on a deal, which ran for 2 hours today, at one of 234 restaurants across the country. Sadly, only 500 Big Macs per store were available.
