Hike for Hope

Depression is a life-threatening, debilitating disease, but many people avoid talking about it.

Join in a walk to help the fight against depression.

To break the silence and raise awareness that depression is a biological condition like any other, the Ithemba Foundation is organising the Hope Hike in partnership with Pharma Dynamics in Gauteng on 5 October and in Cape Town on 12 October. “I am taking part in the hike because I think people need to be made more aware of depression, especially after the death of Robin Williams,” says Dana Snyman, a successful Afrikaans writer and journalist who also suffers from depression.

What is the Hope Hike?

The hike is aimed at raising awareness of, and funds for, clinical depression research by getting the public involved in fighting the stigma that accompanies depression and breaking the taboo surrounding the subject. It’s a family-friendly hike and you can choose between a 3, 5 or a 10 km route.
