Hilary Clinton has announced that she will make her second run to become the next US president in 2016

On Sunday former USA secretary of State, Hilary Rodham Clinton released a 2-minute video in which she announced that she will be running for president.

The New York Times reports that Clinton is taking up the challenge for the second time following her defeat as representative of the democratic party to incumbent US president Barack Obama in 2008.

"Everyday Americans need a champion. And I want to be that champion,” she says in the video which was circulated on social media.

"So I’m hitting the road to earn your vote — because it’s your time. And I hope you’ll join me on this journey.”

Clinton is said to the firm favourite to become the representative for the democrats in the 2016 presidential race.

If elected, she will become the first woman in history to sit in the Oval Office but the former first lady has a knack for making history, she became the first woman to be elected to senate when she became governor of New York in 2000.

Her loyalty has also been praised for when she served under Obama during his inaugural term, despite having lost to him.

Clinton is also no stranger to controversy, her husband Bill Clinton had reportedly had an affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky during the 90s but she remained by her husband's side.

The Yale Law school alumnus's campaign interests are yet to be revealed but speculations of gender issues such as equal pay have been rumoured to be her target.
