He's sexy, young, R500 000 richer and has just bagged himself a lucrative recording deal with Universal Music. So it’s no wonder he’s the envy of many of his peers and girls are throwing themselves at him.

But more than the instant fame and hordes of fans that he’s gained, the eighth Idols SA winner is just grateful for the chance to make music for one of the biggest record labels in the industry.

When we meet up with him, the 25-year-old still can’t believe that out of thousands of hopeful, talented musicians he won ?the three-month-long competition.

Khaya Mthethwa has become a household name – and he did so even before his win. From his first audition he won the hearts of fans across the country, putting pressure on him to excel in the contest.

And he got it right, much to his fans’ delight. Not only did he win the prestigious Idols title, he’s the first black person to walk away with the honours after eight seasons of the show. “I still can’t comprehend it but I believe it was God’s doing. I was completely overwhelmed by the sheer outpouring of support,” Khaya says.
