ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu has lodged a lawsuit against SABC's Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu has lodged a lawsuit against controversial SABC  Corporate Affairs Executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

He is accusing him of publicly making malicious and defamatory statements about him a few weeks ago. Motsoeneng allegedly made claims and threats against Mthembu during the new Age business briefing’s live broadcast on 27 October 2016. He allegedly warned Mthembu to stop “making a lot of noise” regarding the SABC and alleged that Mthembu’s  wanted  to “capture him”.

Mthembu wants the court to order Motsoeneng  pay him damages of R1 million and apologise  unconditionally in both the print media and the public broadcaster for injuring his reputation.

Mthembu’s legal representatives, Nicqui Galaktiou Inc, sent a letter to Motsoeneng earlier this month demanding an immediate public apology and the withdrawal of his defamatory claims. The ANC Parliamentary caucus spokesperson , Moloto Mothapo, said the letter also demanded that Motsoeneng disclose all the details of the alleged meeting where such attempted “capture” allegedly took placed.

“Having failed to do so within the stipulated period, legal proceedings have now been lodged with the Court and Mr Motsoeneng will be served with the papers in the next few days,” said Mothapo.
