A KwaZulu-Natal-woman Xolile Manyaka (29) is currently in hospital in a critical condition after being set alight by her ex-boyfriend Zakhele Goodman

According to Manyaka’s mother, Thenjiwe Mpungwa, the pair were not lovers anymore, but have a three-year-old child together.

“Xolile had broken up with Zakhele, he just didn’t want to accept it”, the mother explained.

On the morning of 12 January 2017, Goodman allegedly came to see the mother of his child and told her he wanted to have a word with her. He took her next to a road and poured petrol all over her before setting her alight. She is said to be in a critical state and her body is covered in bandages.

“I was busy doing the laundry when I heard people screaming, only to find my daughter in flames,” Mpungwa says, adding she is now fearing for her life since Goodman is on the run to evade questioning  over the attempted murder.

South African Community Crime Watch has created awareness in an effort to catch him.

SACCW Chief Operation Officer, Mike Venter says ‘the more his pictures are splashed throughout media channels, the more chances we have of catching him.”

A case of attempted murder has been opened at KwaDabeka Police Station and the police are still looking for Goodman for questioning.
