Joe Thomas allegedly paid millions while local musicians paid "peanuts"

It was not all roses and sunshine when international RnB crooner Joe Thomas visited Mzansi a few days ago.

In as much as fans were taken aback by the star performing his yesteryear hits, local musos were not as chuffed.

It didn’t sit well with Limpopo artists that the Good Girls hit maker was paid millions while they were paid thousands for the recent Mapungubwe Arts Festival 2015.

Sunday Sun reported that Joe Thomas was allegedly booked for over R1,6 million while local artists were allegedly booked for only R10 000 to perform at the jazz festival.

The paper reported that informal marches were held in the city centre of Polokwane during the two weeks of the festival by Limpopo musicians and locals.

An anonymous musician told the paper that it is disheartening to be “overlooked in favour of a fallen American singer who asks a million for one performance!”

“This is disheartening, as other provinces support their artists – but our Limpopo government keeps overlooking us,” the muso said.
