There has been a lot of talk of journalists applying for positions in the Democratic Alliance.

The Herald reports that a Nelson Mandela Bay reporter would be inducted as a DA councillor.

Die Burger's senior municipal reporter, Helga van Staaden, will be sworn in as a councillor.

Earlier in the month a senior Sunday Times editor, Brendan Boyle, was suspended after it emerged that he had applied to be a DA MP. He later withdrew his CV.

Business day had reported that former Citizen editor Martin Williams was among those who have shown interest in becoming a DA MP.

Names of Zelda Jongbloed of Rapport and former Daily Maverick part-time columnist Jacques Rousseau have also been mentioned.

DA leader Helen Zille is a former journalist.

This has sparked a lot of debate on whether journalists can be politicians.
