After a hiatus for a while former Rhythm City actress Keabetswe “KB” Motsilanyane is back. The actress who has been off our screen for over the year is back with a her new single Find a way and is set to star in a sizzling new movie A hundred lives. DRUM caught up with her to discuss her birthday celebration show at Basseline this Friday, acting, music and more.

So you turn 37 this Friday…

Yes I do. And this time unlike all the years where I celebrate privately my friends decided we should celebrate with my fans and do a show. So they went out got the venue and posters and everything and just told me when it was. I am actually also a guest at my own party because I didn’t plan anything.

You have such great friends.

Yes indeed and for the first time I get to perform with some of my musician friends Brian Themba, Candy TsaMandebele, Lection, Morena The Square, Thiwe and others who decided to be part of the party. Friday is about celebrating and the ‘rebirth’ of my career.

Your new single Find a way. How did it come about?

It was at a time when I was working with some artists in Sweden and Norway we were writing songs for a library that they sell to artists. We listened to and wrote a lot of song but when I heard Find a way, I knew I had to sing it. This is my ‘comeback’ jam. I haven’t released in a while and thing song seemed right. We did 13 singles and I will be releasing them as time goes by.

You left Rhythm City in December 2014 and we haven’t seen you since. What have you been up to?

The decision to leave show was not mine, Rhythm City decided they wont bring the character back. After that I thought to myself I don’t want to be in the same situation again where I have invested all my time into a project and later on they just decide at the drop of a hat they don’t want to work with you anymore. So since I left I have been doing all the stuff I put on hold for the seven years I was there. I run empowerment workshop in Northwest on the arts because my aspiration is to have an arts academy and artist development agency one day.

So the new movie, A hundred lives what is it about?

Well for now all I can say is it’s a great project with an ensemble cast. I am excited to be getting into acting especially film because it doesn’t take up all your time to do it. You also don’t get typecast like when you do soapies for a long time.

KB’s birthday concert is taking place this Friday 8th April at Bassline in Newtown, Johannesburg.
