Rapper Khuli Chana confirmed that he is in the process of taking legal action against the SAPS after being shot and wounded by police.

Attempted murder charges have been brought against police officers involved in the shooting of the musician.

"The case docket will be forwarded to the Ipid for an independent investigation into what happened. All members involved were informed to avail themselves for the investigation," said spokesman Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini.

It was not immediately clear how many officers would be investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate. Seven bullets hit the star’s blue BMW 1 series. All seven were shot from the passenger side. A police officer has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a man in Bedfordview, an incident which saw hip hop star Khuli Chana mistakenly being shot at by police. A bullet hit the multiple award winning rappers’ right hand and his back was wounded by fragments.

Police have maintained that they fired warning shots, while witnesses have claimed that officers attempted to flag Chana down before firing two warning shots.

Chana disagrees saying while leaving the garage he noticed an unmarked vehicle with headlights on, faced in the direction of the oncoming traffic. Two vehicles ahead of him made their way around the vehicle. He then proceeded to do the same.  He maintains there was no attempt to stop him, neither was any warning given before shots were fired.

A 30-year-old police man was arrested charged with the kidnapping and extortion.

"A 9mm pistol was found in his possession; he was arrested for house robbery and kidnapping. The suspect will appear in court tomorrow [Wednesday]," said spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

The kidnap victim, a Bedfordview business man was found in Pretoria. A R 100 000 ransom was demanded for his release.
