Lesego Motsepe's life was celebrated at her funeral service held at the Bryanston Methodist church in Johannesburg.

ANC national chairperson Baleka Mbete said Lesego was a leader. She thanked Lesego's mother, Ivy Skhosana, for sharing her daughter with the nation.

'I was really touched by Lesego,” she said.  “She wasn’t seeking pity but giving leadership.”

The service consisted of a number of tributes from people who lived, loved and worked with Lesego.

Poetry, one of Lesego's passions, dominated the service with speakers such as Sello Maake ka Ncube, Napo Masheane, Lesego's uncle and nieces choosing to pay tribute to her with poems.

Lesego's long time friend and collaborator Pops Mohammed also performed a piece accompanied by poet Ntsiki Mazwai.

A letter written by the actress' mother was read out during the service.

“You woke up each day with a smile on your face,” it said. “I will miss your cooking and your drama queen moments, especially your advice on fashion,” her mother wrote.

Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Mashatile also paid tribute to the actress and commended the role she played in the arts.

“We have all lost someone that we love,” he said.
