Minister Senzeni Zokwana met the farmers at the Matiani dipping facility, which is affected by the disease. The Minister’s spokesperson Bomikazi Molapo said to educate people about the importance of adhering to the increased control measures, the public and community communication plans have been implemented in local languages.

“All provincial veterinary officials (state veterinarians and animal health technicians) will assist in the vaccination campaigns,” she said. So far, 14 cattle have the signs of the disease, while 1 200 cattle are at risk because they use the same dipping facility.

Cattle in five neighbouring villages will be vaccinated and the process will be completed by Sunday 20 December, but Molapo said the department ensured that  all vets will work throughout December to make sure that all cattle are vaccinated.
