Maguvhe quits SABC

The last remaining member of the SABC’s beleaguered board, Professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe, has quit the broadcaster.

This comes after last week’s Parliamentary inquiry into the fitness of the SABC board to hold office.

Cross examined by Parliament’s ad hoc committee, Maguvhe came under fire when he denied knowing anything about corruption and maladministration at the state broadcaster.

Maguvhe had tried several means to stop the inquiry from taking place. He initially filed for an urgent interdict of the inquiry at the Western Cape high court, which proved to be unsuccessful. He then staged a walk out before the inquiry proceedings took place.

When the inquiry was held, committee members asked him why he tried to evade questioning and questioned his integrity as a chairman of the board.

The ad hoc committee will resume its inquiry in January
