Make a hearty chicken stew

Winter is the perfect time for hearty stews and using chicken in this one makes it heart-smart for the whole family. And of course, little ones will love getting their hands on a juicy drumstick.

  • Serves 4-6
  • Preparation time: 15 min
  • Cooking time: 30 min

You’ll need:

  • 15 ml (1 T) oil
  • 8 chicken thighs and drumsticks
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 250 g white button mushrooms
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 15 ml (1 T) tomato paste
  • 1 sachet (58 g) chicken cook-in sauce
  • 15 ml (1 T) dried mixed herbs
  • salt and pepper

Do this:

  1. Heat the oil in a frying pan and brown the chicken pieces. Add the onion, garlic and mushrooms and continue to fry for 3 minutes.
  2. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste and cook-in sauce, following the packet instructions. Season with the mixed herbs, salt and pepper.
  3. Simmer for 30 minutes or until the chicken is tender and done.
  4. Serve with pap or starch of your choice.
