Former editor of The Star newspaper Makhudu Sefara has been appointed the City of Johannesburg's communications head, the city said on Wednesday.

"The City of Johannesburg council today approved the appointment of Mr Makhudu Sefara to the position of group executive head: communication and marketing," it said in a statement.

Sefara resigned as the newspaper's editor in June. At the time Sefara and Independent News and Media SA said his departure was amicable and mutually agreed upon.

Sefara resigned as SA National Editors' Forum deputy chairman following his departure from The Star.
