A man has been arrested after a seven-month-old baby boy was abducted in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old was taken into custody on Monday for allegedly snatching the baby from the Kwandokwenza hostel, New Brighton, around noon on Sunday, Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu said.

"The child was taken away after the child minder left him at the rest room. When she came back the baby was missing."

The baby was found and returned to his parents following the man's arrest. He was being held for questioning. Police were looking for the man's alleged accomplice.
