A Malawian man was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday to face a murder charge, police said.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the 22-year-old allegedly killed a man in Johannesburg on Monday.

"It is alleged [he] stabbed Mohammed Manyika, 35, once in his chest in a room at City Hives building in Faraday. The victim's friends took him to Johannesburg Central Fire station where paramedics stabilised him before they took him to the Johannesburg hospital."

Manyika died on his way to hospital. His alleged attacker was arrested on Tuesday. The motive for the murder was not known.
