Mfundi Vundla gives Soapie Awards a skip but appreciates special gesture by Winnie Ntshaba

The Durban International Convention Centre played host to the second annual Royalty Soapie Awards this past weekend.

The star-studded award show was a night of celebrating those who were deemed to have made a great impression with their roles in their respective soapies and its production.

One such recipient was meant to be Generations and Generations: The Legacy producer Mfundi Vundla but the television stalwart decided to give the event a skip, despite the awards' interest in honouring him for his work.

"It was not a 'snub'. I declined an invitation where I was to be honoured," he tells DRUM.

"Accepting would be creating the impression all is well between me and the 16 axed actors." he adds.

Despite Vundla's absence, Winnie Ntshaba - who played Khetiwe on Generations, mentioned her former boss at the awards and called him a 'legend' according to Sowetan.

Vundla has taken note of Ntshaba's gesture of a truce and is appreciative of the gesture.

"I recognise Winnie's invitation was an olive branch. For that I am grateful," he reveals.

Other big highlights of the event included Masasa Mbangeni scooping another award for her role as Thembeka on eTV's Scandal and Motlatsi Mafatshe gaining recognition for his role as Sechaba on Isidingo while Isibaya walked away with seven awards including the outstanding soapie award.
