Milk pudding

This is a simplified version of traditional melkkos which is easy to whip up as a delicious antidote to the cold.


Preparation: 10 min

Cooking: 30 min

2 litres (8 c) milk

125 ml (½ c) sugar

250 ml (1 c) flour

5 ml (1 t) salt

30 ml (2 T) ground cinnamon

2 ml (½ t) nutmeg

5 ml (1 t) baking powder

30 ml (2 T) butter

30 ml (2 T) milk

extra ground cinnamon for sprinkling on top

In a deep saucepan over a medium heat, heat the milk and sugar until warm (do not boil).

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and baking powder.

Rub the butter into the mixture, then add the milk and combine until the mixture has a crumbly consistency.

Add the buttery flour mixture to the warm milk and simmer for 20 minutes while stirring occasionally.

Serve hot in small bowls with a sprinkling of ground cinnamon on top.
