The Miss SA Top 12 reveal their style tips and share advice on how to make the most of what you have

Abigail De Jager

  • Be aware of your posture.  The way you carry yourself makes a world of difference.
  • You need to feel comfortable in your clothes and enjoy what you’re wearing.  Worrying about a skirt that’s too short and revealing, or a strap that might snap simply causes unnecessary stress.
  • Invest in quality clothes.  It might cost you initially, but it’s worth it in the long run.

Anzél Stofberg

  • Dress for your body shape. If you don’t know what suits you, ask for advice.
  • When it comes to dressing for an occasion, rather over-dress than under-dress. You can always take off a necklace or other accessories, but you can’t magically turn pumps into heels.
  • Don’t try to copy something you see in a magazine and expect to look the same. Be aware of what’s in fashion and try to incorporate it into your look, but make your outfits your own.

Caylene Marais

  • Classy is sexy!
  • Dress for your body type, not according to what’s trendy at the moment.
  • Whatever you wear, wear it with confidence – people will remember your radiance rather than your wardrobe.

Dipalesa Mbola

  • Never wear something that feels uncomfortable, no matter how fashionable it may be.
  • Wear clothes that flatter your body – nothing too tight or too loose.
  • Don’t “copy and paste” an outfit you’ve seen someone else wearing. Rather use it as inspiration and add accessories to stamp your own unique personality onto it.

Jade Hubner

  • Don’t wear outfits that are too short.
  • Dress according to your body type – highlight your best features and hide the worst.
  • Don’t wear something simply because it’s in fashion. If it doesn’t suit your body shape, don’t wear it.

Julia Petersen

  • Wear colours that complement your skin colour. Bright colours are good for most people and you’ll look radiant, which will draw people to you.
  • Wear clothes that flatter your body shape.
  • Don’t reveal too much skin. If you wear something that reveals a lot of leg, cover your top and vice versa.

Matlala Mokoko

  • The secret to being able to work your outfit is confidence.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask the advice of those around you now and then. You don’t have to have a professional stylist – input from a friend or family member is often valuable.
  • Play dress-up! Try out different styles, colours and textures to see what really works for you!

Mishka Patel

  • Dress the way you feel you want to represent yourself each day.
  • Always remember you can only make a first impression once, so dress well, make an effort with your hair and make-up – and smile!
  • Rather over-dress than under-dress for an event. You can always take an extra piece of jewellery off if it seems like too much.

Rolene Strauss

  • Dress for success. Yes, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but whether you’re going to read a book depends largely on the cover!
  • Someone once told me that even though styles constantly change, class remains the same. So keep your class even as fashions change.
  • Ask for others’ opinions. There have been many times when I’ve asked for an opinion and it led me to trying something different which ended up being stunning. The opinions of those you trust can be invaluable.

Tidimalo Sekhalo

  • The way you dress communicates how you’d like to be seen, so make sure what you wear reflects who you are.
  • Understand what suits your body shape best and dress accordingly.
  • Always make an effort to be current so your wardrobe has a fresh feel. Keep up with the latest trends and makes sure you know how to pull off a trend.

Tshegofatso Monggae

  • First impressions last – keep this in mind when it comes to the way you dress. You should always look classy, presentable and sassy.
  • Check out the latest trends on blogs and in fashion magazines for tips on how you can make your look more appealing and relevant.
  • Always dress for success and wear your clothes with pride.

Ziphozakhe Zokufa

  • Know your body shape and the styles and cuts that will flatter it.
  • Don’t follow fashion blindly. Rather create your own unique signature style that will make you stand out from the rest.
  • You don’t need expensive garments to look the part. It all comes from within. Confidence and elegance will make you look and feel like a million dollars without the price tag!
