Mamelodi Sundowns have bolstered the technical team by bringing in Manqoba Mngqithi as assistant coach and he will assume his duties with immediate effect.

According to the website, the experienced Mngqithi, who led his former side Golden Arrows to their first-ever cup glory when they won the MTN8, will be hoping to add his experience in Downs quest for success. He also coached AmaZulu and Chippa United amongst others.

Mngqithi will join Pitso Mosimane and Alex Bapela on the bench.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said that Mngqithi would bring a wealth of experience to the club, and that he was looking forward to working with the former Golden Arrows coach.

“Manqoba has extensive experience at both PSL and amateur level, and is credited with identifying young players and nurturing them at Arrows. He is a Level 3 coach, and holds a CAF A Licence. But more importantly, his coaching philosophy and approach are in line with the philosophy at Sundowns,” Mosimane said.

Mosimane also pointed out that since the departure of two assistant coaches after he took over the reins - Harold Legodi and Dutchman Jan Dirks -- he had not replaced them.

“I know that Manqoba has strong views and opinions on issues, and have no doubt that he will add value to the club. He has a good work ethic, and knows what it is that a head coach looks for from an assistant coach. I am humbled that he is willing to work as an assistant coach after working as head coach, and he says that he is looking forward to learning still. I, too, will learn a lot from him,” Mosimane adds.
