Cape Town - Eskom has announced that stage 1 load shedding will take place from 17:00 on Monday, the ninth consecutive day it has cut power from the grid.

Stage 1 load shedding means that 1 000MW needs to be cut from the grid and the shortened hours means the effect of load shedding will be isolated to households scheduled to go out between 17:00 and 22:00, when the load shedding will end.

A business director has responded to load shedding by giving his staff a challenge, explaining that in South Africa "earth hour is now every hour”.

Fin24 user Peter du Preez said that “rather than burying our heads in the sand, I’ve challenged my employees this morning to create a campaign within our company of ‘Going Old School’.”
