“Unfortunately it’s true. I have resigned. It’s time for new beginnings and I’m craving new opportunities."

SABC2 soapie Muvhango loses yet another actor.

Earlier this week, Muvhango actor Lesley Musina confirmed his departure from the popular soap after his character, Ndalamo, was written out of the script.

Now Mona Monyane, who plays the humble Dr Nthabeleng, is also set to leave the show. Speaking exclusively to DRUM, Mona confirmed her exit.

“Unfortunately it’s true. I have resigned. It’s time for new beginnings and I’m craving new opportunities. I will miss the amazing crew and cast.”

Mona has been with the show for three years and says she’s ready to put her energy into her own production company.

“I’m a new mom and I’m ready to focus on being a great mom as well as investing in my own business,” she says. “I want to make films and create my own productions with my partner, Khulu Skenjana.”

Mona says being a mother has ignited her passion for acting again, and having come from a theatre background, she didn’t want a steady income to cloud her vision.

She appears in the film Kalushi, a story about Solomon Mahlangu of Umkhonto we Sizwe, along with actors Welile Nzuza, Pearl Thusi, Gcina Mhlophe and Jafta Mamabolo. The movie will be released on 10 March 2016 and is directed by Mandlakayise Walter Dube.

“This film is so important for South African history; it tells an African story and the fight against the apartheid regime,” Mona says.

She’s also in Mzansi Magic drama series Umkhonto in which she plays the role of prosecutor Thenjiwe who teams up with her ex-husband to find their children who have been kidnapped.
