Twitter went abuzz after DJ Sbu tweeted a video showing Mpho expressing his excitement at his home in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg, after being awarded a bursary. Subjects listed under his name on the post are Mathematics, Physics, Life Orientation, Geography, English, Sesotho and History.

But Mpho told DRUM that he did his matric in 2014 at Alafang Secondary School in Katlehong and he said he is doing his second year in medicine at the University of Cape Town this year. “I only noticed this last night. I didn’t even get 100% and I didn’t do History in matric,” the UCT student confirmed.

He told us that he did get seven distinctions in matric but he got 89% in Sesotho, 91% in Maths, 82% in English, 95 in Life Orientation, 98% in Geography, 96% in Life Science and 96% in Physical Science.

He also told us that DJ Sbu did come to his house when he passed his matric and that he awarded him a bursary through the Sbusiso Leope Education Foundation, which is when the video was taken. “This took me by surprise but when it started to trend on twitter, I became shaky. I’m a private person and I don’t like to be all over but I don’t know why he [DJ Sbu] re-posted the video.”
