Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh, calls for South Africans to stand up against President Jacob Zuma.

In his new song, Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh, the son of Dali Mpofu – the EFF’s Gauteng premier candidate – calls for South Africans to stand up against President Jacob Zuma. “Talk about social change. Stand up. Meet me at the Union Buildings. Mr Zuma, your time is up.” The lyrics of the song, written and produced by Mpofu-Walsh, also known as Vice V, start: “Mr President, this is for the people who you’re tryna fool … This is for the cronies who admire you … Have you heard the rumours, they say Zuma is a criminal … Zuma must go … I can see the people on the streets, calling for your head, calling for your defeat.” Mr President is a remix of Tunisian rapper EL General’s song Rais Lebled, which has been labelled as an anthem of the Tunisian revolution. Mpofu-Walsh told City Press: “When I conceived the song, I wanted it to sound like a theme song for the South African Mubarak moment.” Mpofu-Walsh, a Master’s graduate of the University of Oxford, said the song was inspired by what he considered to be decay during the Zuma presidency. “The first time I considered the Zuma regime beyond repair was when Zuma and the security cluster did not demonstrate due sensitivity over Marikana, which was heightened by their refusal to attend the anniversary memorial.”
