No party, like a Durban July party

One of the country's most anticipated social events, the Durban July, delivered on the anticipation and did not disappoint this year, writes Molife Kumona.

The Vodacom Durban July is one of the most anticipated events not only on the KZN social calendar but South Africa’s as well, and 2014 Durban July lived up to that anticipation.

This year's theme was ‘Big Screen!’, meaning inspired by Hollywood, celebrities and and regular peopl alike followed it exceptionally. Locally and internationally renowned South African actress Terry Pheto came out with the dress she wore in 2007 when she first went to Hollywood and the Tsotsi her debut movie won an Oscar. “I love the July, I get to not only look great but also have mad fun,” she said.

AfroTainment founder DJ Tira who also had one of the most sought after marquees at Greyville Racecourse opted for a red suit this year. “This is my idea of ‘Big Screen’ bright and stylish,” he said. Television personalities Minnie Dlamini and Nambitha Mpumlwana caused such excitement each time they walked past crowds who flogged to them to take pictures, to which they obliged gracefully.

Isibaya’s Celeste Ntuli who was clad in a black ensemble expressed how she always gets excited to comeback home no matter what she is doing because, “Ethekwini supports and loves me so much.”
