A care home nurse was saved from serious injury in a lightning storm because of the rubber soles on her flip flops.

Jennifer Lyons from Chippenham in South West England was chatting on the phone when the lightning bolt struck a satellite dish and set her house on fire, the Daily Mirror newspaper reports. However, she avoided serious injury because the rubber soles on her flip-flops stopped the electricity from passing directly through her body.Jennifer said of the incident: "It was like a bomb. I was knocked back. There was debris everywhere."A fireman said it was one of the most unusual cases he'd seen." - Bang
