Opposition parties have expressed their disappointment in the outcomes of the Seriti Commission’s final report on the multibillion rand Arms Deal.

The report found there was no fraud or corruption in the procurement process during the arms deal, where government spent approximately R30 billion on the purchases of  26 Gripen fighter aircrafts and 24 Hawk lead-in fighter trainer aircraft for the air force, as well as frigates and submarines for the navy.

The DA said the commission refused to admit crucial documents, such as the final report by Debevoise & Plimpton, following a compliance investigation into Ferrostaal, which was part of the German Submarine Consortium.

“It is clear the Arms Procurement Commission made no real effort to investigate the allegations contained in crucial documents, such as the final report prepared by Debevoise & Plimpton, following a compliance investigation into Ferrostaal,”says the party.

The DA says the final report is a massive disappointment because those, who were implicated in arms deal corruption, have effectively been let off the hook by the Arms Procurement Commission.

ON the other hand the Mbuyiseni Ndlozi EFF spokesperson says they reject the report as it is an attempt by the ANC to “whitewash the irrefutable acts of corruption” involving companies that were awarded contracts as well as ANC officials, including President Zuma

“Numerous Commissioners to the Seriti Commission had resign during course of the inquiry, alleging interference by Judge Seriti in their investigations and him denying them the right to re-examine witnesses,” he says,

“The commission never intended to uncover the truth about the controversial arms deal. This discredited commission follows in the footsteps of other laughable processes instituted by Zuma and those who work tirelessly to protect him from prosecution and any lawful attempts to hold him accountable.”

The EFF says they will not take the report seriously while the DA says no real effort was made to investigate the matter.
