Production on the documentary series will start in a few months time.

The Executive Producer at Deepend Films Paulene Abrey spoke to EWN and confirmed that there is quite a buzz about the Oscar Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival currently underway.

"Three years later, there's still much interest in the story of Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp," Paulene said.

Hartiwood Films and Deepened Films managed to attain the film and documentary rights from Pan Macmillan South Africa, the publisher behind Behind the Door: The Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp Story which was written by local South African journalists Mandy Wiener and Barry Bateman. The film which is based on the book is said to go deeper into the story behind Oscars shooting of Reeva Steenkamp.

Paulene also said the documentary won’t just be a rehash and will be done in the style of other popular true story series.

“It’s not going to be one documentary but a process of two or three. It’s like O.J. Simpson’s, a continual thing,” she added.

The People VS O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story detailed the events leading up to the killing of Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman over ten episodes, and bringing many to debate on the non-guilty verdict in the case.

It's believed that production on the documentary series will start in a few months time.
