Users that have used the app to hook up with potential date mates seem to be already spoken for

The app that's supposed to connect singles to each other according to proximity, has been found to be used for the opposite function it was founded for.

A recent online survey by research firm, GlobalWebIndex, comprised of 47 622 internet users found that from the 621 people who have used Tinder in the last month, 30% are married and another 12% are in a relationship.

Tinder finds matches for registered users who can then look through the available options by swiping left to pass on the offer and right to express interest and the messaging can begin.

The app has also been said to be used by "tinder tourists" who get kicks out of swiping as a confidence booster because their actions will be "consequence-free".

But the presented statistics are balanced out by the 54% of singles and the 3% of widows and divorcees who use the app.

Tinder was launched in 2012 and according to Marie, the app has over 50 million active users around the world who check their accounts eleven times a day and spend an average of of 90 minutes per day on it.
