Protest in Cape Town is politically motivated - de Lille

Cape Town mayor, Patricia de Lille says protest action has occurred in strategic places of the city and is politically motivated.

She says these were calculated attempts by opposition parties to make the city ungovernable: “Investigations showed that these coordinated acts of sabotage were well organised.”

Speaking at a council meeting, de Lille said these attempts will not affect the DA’s efforts to retain power in the 2016 local government elections.

Listing six recent demonstrations which disrupted transport and other services, she says she believes these were politically geared towards the 2016 elections.

She has publicly called on the ANC, Cosatu and the Ses’khona People’s Rights Movement to condemn the violent action in the city – saying their silence would be equal to their condoning it.
