Ukhozi FM’s Khathide Ngobe and Selby Mkhize are dynamite on the radio, and just as electrifying in person. We chat to them about tradition, love and bonding

Sometimes things just don’t go according to plan – like when you arrange to meet a dynamic duo but only one of them shows up.

We’re at the SABC studio in Durban, and we’re met by Ukhozi FM’s Selby Mkhize, also known as Mamkhize. He welcomes us warmly and explains that his colleague, Khathide “Tshatha” Ngobe, is not working today. He has other commitments but he assures us we can meet him later at the Hilton Hotel for our photoshoot.

Luckily, Selby is entertainment enough for now. He has an eye for fine detail and is enjoying showing off his outfit. He struts his stuff as if he is on a catwalk.

As he settles down, he tells us about his early days in radio.

“When I joined Gagasi FM, I actually approached them and did a gossip feature there,” he says. “For Ukhozi FM, I did the same thing. I approached them and they accepted my offer.”
