Rebecca Malope and Benjamin Dube crowned queen and king of African gospel music

Both legendary gospel singers walked away with best female and best male awards, respectively at the Trumpet Africa Gospel Music Awards (Tagma).

Sowetan reported that the awards were hosted by Metro FM DJ, Thami Ngubeni and were held at Pretoria's State Theatre on Sunday night, attracting gospel musicians across the continent.

Founded by Zanele Mbokazi (Crown Gospel Awards), the Tagmas are aimed at honouring Gospel music artists in Africa and the diaspora.

Solly Mahlangu walked away with the best song award for his hitsong, Wahamba Nathi.  

Some performancers on the night included James Okon, Mahalia Buchanan, Mabongi, Rev Elias Shongwe and Benjamin Dube.
