Alongside crowd pleasers such as Sfiso Ncwane and Hlengiwe Mhlaba, the legendary Rebecca Malope was part of the bill at the inaugural Mpumalanga Praise live CD and DVD recording.

The group whose recording took place at Church on the Hill in Nelspruit is the brainchild of renowned gospel mogul Sipho Makhabane, alias Big Fish. Other guest artists that graced the recording occasion included Donny and Dumi Mkokstad.

“It feels good to go back home and empower the youth,” said Rebecca. I’m proud of Sipho for coming up with the idea. He slaved away as early as May auditioning people for the gospel group.

“We need people like him. The youth need us to uplift them so they can reach their dreams. Projects like these (Mpumalanga Praise) will be a shot in the arm, it will lift their spirits. Sipho’s worked very hard to get the talent we have in the new group. I’m also happy that I got the chance to perform with my band.”

Away from her activities with Mpumalanga Praise, Rebecca let it slip that she’ll also be working on a musical. “The tentative title is Angingedwa: Life Story of Rebecca, which will be told on stage. I can’t say much on it yet. We’ll be starting with rehearsals soon.”
