Reeva Steenkamp’s parents, June and Barry, are relieved that Oscar Pistorius will be serving jail time.

Reeva Steenkamp’s parents, June and Barry,  said they were relieved that Oscar Pistorius would be serving jail time.

It's been a long and terrible journey for the family since their beloved Reeva's death and the couple simply both want to get on with their lives.

They have said they are glad Oscar’s being punished for what he’s done but weren't seeking vengeance.

Barry, who is a horse-trainer, says he’s looking forward to going back home to his horses and June plans to carry on with Reeva’s wishes of opening a home for abused women which she plans to call The Reeva Foundation: “I’ll be busy making this happen and helping the women who Reeva wanted to rescue. In this way we’ll keep Reeva’s name alive."

On the other hand, Oscar Pistorius reportedly cried himself to sleep on his first night in prison. He is currently serving a five-year sentence at the Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria and was apparently closely monitored by nurses and guards in the hospital section of the prison. A prison said “You could hear him. Shortly after the door closed you could hear the tears. He was torn up. Broken. The crying went on and on. We think he stopped when he fell asleep. It was really bad.” Another source said the athlete was shocked when he arrived at the facility: “It gets everyone the first time, but he has the jitters bad. He’s really tense and stressed. The fact that he can’t do what he wants when he wants and eat what he wants is hitting him hard. It’s clear his imprisonment has not hit home yet. He’s under observation, with officials monitoring everything he does.”  THE JUICE, THE TIMES
