The rescue mission to save illegal miners trapped underground has been suspended indefinitely.

Three more illegal miners trapped underground at an unused mine shaft in Langlaagte, Johannesburg, have been rescued.

This is after four miners were rescued on Sunday.

The illegal miners received medical treatment upon surfacing, but were later arrested by the police.

It is believed that the miners became trapped underground on Wednesday. One of the survivors revealed that there are seven more miners trapped underground.

On Monday morning, Johannesburg Emergency Services announced that they have stopped the rescue mission indefinitely because of the dangerous conditions underground.
