A soccer match and the filming of a movie will cause several road closures around Johannesburg throughout the weekend, metro police said on Friday.

The M1 south from Empire Road as well as the M2 east at the Crown Interchange would be closed from 4am on Saturday to 11pm on Sunday, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

"People travelling from Limpopo and Pretoria are advised to use the N1 western bypass to avoid getting stuck in traffic."

Meanwhile several roads would be closed around the FNB Stadium between 9am and 8pm on Saturday for the Soweto Derby.

"Fans from Soweto should use the Top 6 as well as the Rea Vaya buses," Minnaar said.

Metro rail trains would also be operation around the area.
