Ruffle some Feathers?

What would the Feather Awards be without a little bit of drama? The organisers of this humorous awards ceremony – a tongue-in-cheek celebration much loved by the public – have added a new category.

When the judging panel gathered at Liberation Café in Melville, Joburg,

to decide on the nominees they added the “We think you’re gay and it’s OK” category. As the judging panel deliberated, some interesting names came up.

Among them were Selimathunzi’s Lunga Shabalala, presenter and DJ SIZWE DHLOMO, 5FM’s Gareth Cliff, DJ ZINHLE and Afro-soul diva SIMPHIWE DANA, to mention just a few.

Who makes the list will be revealed at the launch on 26 September 2012.

According to the co-founder of the Feather Awards, Thami Kotlolo, the awards are about glamour, fun and entertainment and the judges decided to make the awards more interesting with the new category. He says the awards are a tribute to Mzansi celebs and an inspiration to the South African gay community.

We can’t wait to see who else makes the list in the different categories!
