We cannot allow this trajectory to take hold of our institutions, Nzimande says

The SA Communist Party has accused Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters of posing a threat to Parliament.

Speaking at the end of the party’s central committee meeting in Kliptown, Soweto, SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande called on concerned EFF members and the public to isolate what he described as a “dangerous cancer” of “hooliganism” Malema represents.

This follows the disruption of Parliament by Malema and his fellow MPs on Thursday after the party voiced dissatisfaction with the way President Jacob Zuma responded to its demand that he should pay back a portion of the money the state spent on Nkandla upgrades. Parliament was forced to abandon its proceedings in the wake of the disruption.

Like the ANC, the SACP has likened the EFF’s style of politics to that of Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler in the 1930s.

“…One of the hallmarks of fascism is its inclination to turn politics into theatre. In its formative years, it is the politics of pseudo-military hooliganism. In power, if they come to power, the theatre turns into Nuremberg-style, mass military displays of leader worship and nationalistic chauvinism.

“We cannot allow this trajectory to take hold of our institutions,” Nzimande said.

Malema is still paying the R18 million he owes the taxman, and is due to appear in court tomorrow in relation to the tax matter.

Nzimande said the SACP welcomed the announcement by the SA Revenue Services that it would probe the source of the funds Malema is using to pay off his debt.

“His behavior, not just in Cape Town last week, but in the Gauteng legislature, continues along the same trajectory of anarchic plunder and wrecking of anything in his way that characterized his conduct in Limpopo and as the leader of the ANC Youth League…

“It is SARS on behalf of the people of South Africa that should needs to be saying to Malema and his dodgy backers: “Pay back the money”.
