A movement of people, organisations, government departments, corporates and educators called For the Love of Water (FLOW) has given South Africans comprehensive tips on how to save water.

The organisation shares a commitment to instil a deeper appreciation for understanding and respecting water.

Here are their tips on how to save water:

  1. Avoid buying bottled water.
  2. Sweep outside areas instead of using water and a hosepipe.
  3. Fix leaks in and around your home and report public water leaks to your municipality.
  4. Install water-saving devices on taps and sprinklers and in toilets and showers.
  5. Bathe young children together.
  6. Don’t flush the toilet every time, perhaps only when odours are too much.
  7. Wash your car with a bucket and sponge only.
  8. Use a commercial car wash that recycles water.
  9. Close the tap while you brushing teeth, shaving or lathering soap on your hands.
  10. Take shorter showers and use less water if you bath.
