The 79-year-old woman who died following a car accident allegedly involving Afro-Jazz sensation Judith Sephuma was “diabetic and on her way to the clinic for treatment” at the time of the accident, DRUM has learned.

According to a Sunday news report, the gogo was crossing a busy street in Mofolo, Soweto when Sephuma’s car fatally knocked her down. She died in hospital, the paper reported.

A family member, who only identified herself as the late gogo’s daughter, told DRUM that her family holds no grudge over the accident and is looking forward to moving on with life after the gogo’s burial last Saturday.

“It could have happened to anyone, only God decides when it’s your time to go,” she said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela confirmed to SAPA that police were investigating a case of culpable homicide against the award-winning songbird and that no arrest or court-date has been made and set yet.

Makhubela also confirmed to the news agency that investigations into the matter continue, with a post-mortem report and witness statements expected to come through.

Sephuma declined DRUM’s request for comment. “I’m at a shoot working right now and I’m not discussing anything with any one of you,” she said.
