John 'Shoes' Moshoeu is alive and receiving medical care at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.

Contrary to media speculation that the Former Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs player had passed away, but hospital spokeswoman for Lungiswa Mvumvu says the star footballer is receiving medical treatment and doctors are monitoring his steady recover.

“I spoke to his sister and mother an hour ago... Moshoeu is currently in hospital and receiving treatment and he’s responding well,” says Mvumvu.

The 49-year-old footballer “was admitted to the public hospital three weeks ago and is in a critical condition”.

Moshoeu’s worried mother, Reena, said: “For the past few months he’s been going from one private hospital to another – until his medical aid got exhausted. He was brought into this hospital by Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s husband. He was supposed to be taken to theatre for an operation. But that hasn’t happened yet. My son hasn’t eaten anything in days.”

Moshoeu played as a professional for Giant Blackpool before joining Kaizer Chiefs where he remained one of the most valued players from 1988 to 1993.

Before joining Bursaspor in Turkey and then was transferred to giants Fenerbahce.

He went back to Kaizer Chiefs at age 37 where he somehow, at his age, continued to excite his old fans with the same enthusiasm, skill.

He played there until 2006.

He then joined AmaZulu where he ended his career in 2008 at the age of 42. The attacking midfielder announced on 6 November 2010 his comeback with Brian Baloyi as owners of a South African club Alexandra United FC.
