SABC insiders claim the public broadcaster has no money and their laying the blame on former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng

A source at the SABC told Sunday Sun that the SABC was unable to pay 7 de laan, Isidingo and Muvhango production houses and only paid a partial amount to the firm that makes SABC 1's Uzalo.

Independent Producers' Organisation deputy chairperson Bongiwe Selane told the paper that "payment is generally for work that has been delivered or is in the process of being made. These payments go toward paying actors, directors, the technical crew, caterers, equipment suppliers and car-hire companies."

She added that the SABC's failure to deliver payment is placing the livelihoods of thousands of people at risk.

"The impact on the many thousands of lives is dire. The IPO calls on the SABC to urgently convene a meeting of independent producers to explain to them when and how these failure to meet their contractual obligations will be rectified."

The SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said: "We will not engage in the public domain with the people that we work with. That's why we have decided to engage them directly."
