Star studded line-up for Cape Town Jazz Fest

This year’s lineup is chock-full with surprises including US saxophonist Kirk Whalum, songbird Jill Scott and UK funk outfit, Brand New Heavies.

But why m’rapper AKA cracked an invite to this year’s showcase is anyone’s guess because, let’s face it, for all his rapping talents, you can hardly call AKA a jazz artist. The artists that did make the list are great cats and include the likes of pianist Afrika Mkhize, Jimmy Dludlu, Zonke representing the home front.

This year’s lineup was announced at Katzy’s Grill House in Rosebank in Johannesburg. The organizers and members of the press observed a moment of silence in honour of fallen double bass maestro Victor Ntoni who died earlier in the week. Coincidentally, Ntoni was scheduled to appear at this year’s proceedings.
