Armed robbers held up local celebs at Siphesihle Vazi's birthday party in Alexandra

A group of celebrities that had gathered at a posh club in Alexandra to celebrate Selimathunzi's new presenter Siphesihle Vazi's birthday got more than they bargained for when four robbers interrupted the festivities.

Sowetan reports that Vazi's fellow Duku-Duku host Lunga Shabalala, Nkululeko Magoba of Muvhango, Asanda Foji of Generations: The Legacy and Clement Maosa of Skeem Saam were celebrating at De Grandiose club in Wynberg when the incident occurred.

It is reported that four armed men arrived at the club's VIP section while Magoba, aka Tshirumbula, was on the decks when a waiter "ran up the stairs to instruct the VIP set to lie on the floor as there were robbers downstairs," the paper reports.

The daily quotes eyewitnesses as saying that the robbers had "long rifles" and emptied the cash registers but did not fire any shots and that the entire operation took 10 minutes.

Vazi confirmed the incident to the newspaper.

After the incident, we told the guests that whoever wanted to leave could do so, and we took the party elsewhere. We also apologised to them for what happened" the newcomer said as quoted by the paper.

"The venue was unsafe and the whole issue for me was that safety of the place" Vazi also reported.

Mosa told Sowetan that he was "scared to death and it happened so fast", the actor left the party soon after what happened.

The party was later moved to a club in Melvile where guests reportedly hung around until the early hours of Monday morning.
