Steak and baby marrow wraps with onion sauce

Quick and easy to make.

Serves 4

Preparation time: 10 min

Cooking time: 25 min


15 ml (1 T) oil

1 onion, chopped

3 garlic cloves, chopped

30 ml (2 T) tomato sauce

30 ml (2 T) chutney

½ can (200 g) chopped tomatoes

10 ml (2 t) ground cumin

45 ml (3 T) Worcester sauce


4 x 200 g ostrich steaks

30 ml (6 t) oil

salt and pepper

2 baby marrows, cut into thin strips with a vegetable peeler

4 mini wraps, toasted

1        Onion sauce: Mix the sauce ingredients in a small pot and cook over low heat for 5 minutes or until well blended and fragrant.

2        Wraps: Rub the steaks with 20 ml (4 t) of the oil and season with salt and pepper.

3        Heat a griddle pan over high heat. When hot, add the steaks and cook for 5 minutes a side or until done to your liking. Set aside to rest.

4        Coat the baby marrow strips with the remaining 10 ml (2 t) oil and cook on the griddle pan for 3 minutes a side. Set aside.

5        Slice the steaks and serve with the toasted wraps, baby marrows and onion sauce.
