Storm cuts off President Zuma’s reconciliation day speech

The commemorative ceremony that was taking place in Gopane, Zeerust, Northern Province came to an abrupt end when heavy rain and wind blew the tent away.

President Zuma was cut off mid-speech as people screamed and ran outside clutching their chairs and belongings.

Zuma was acknowledging the 44 miners that were killed in the North West in the Marikana massacre and was reflecting on his experience when he was arrested in Gopane while attempting to flee to exile.

It is uncertain if the commemorative process will continue after the incident.
