The festive season can be anything but the happy and relaxed time it is supposed to be.

Running around to get presents for family and friends and packing for the trip home can take its toll, and spending time with difficult relatives can lead to stress.

Stress can be thought of as a relationship between the demands we face, and the coping resources we employ to handle these demands, says Dr Colinda Linde, a clinical psychologist based in Johannesburg.
