Police have set up a task team dedicated to finding the killers of Uitenhage teacher Jayde Panayiotou.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the task team - consisting of detectives, crime intelligence officers and forensic experts - would now continue to follow up on all leads and information.

“A large number of police officials were mobilised to participate in the search for Jayde and have since returned to their normal duties,” she said.

The popular Riebeek College Girl’s High School teacher was allegedly abducted outside her home at Stellen Glen residential complex in Deacon Road, Kabega on Tuesday morning.

Her body was found on Wednesday morning in an isolated area near KwaNobuhle township in Uitenhage.

Janse van Rensburg said there had been a lot of speculation around the case.

“There has been media speculation that the perpetrators in this case could be the same as in a recent case where a woman was abducted in the parking area of a shopping centre in PE... [this] has not been confirmed but a possible link is being investigated,” she said.

Janse van Rensberg said two individuals have been identified by the investigators who could either be involved in the crime or can assist the SAPS with the case.

Any person who has any knowledge of their whereabouts is requested to please contact their local police station or Kabega Park Police Station on 041 397 683/57 or Warrant Officer Anel Van Eyk at 041 397 6857.

Information can also be shared on SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or Crime Line on 32211.

“The preliminary investigation indicated that the victim was shot [but] the post mortem will indicate the cause of death and further assist investigators with their investigation,” she said.

The post mortem will be held on either Thursday or Friday.
