Ten things about the new Orlando Pirates coach - Kjell Jonevret

Orlando Pirates’ chairman Dr Irvin Khoza announced their new head coach yesterday, Kjell Jonevret, who takes over with immediate effect from Augusto Palacios. He will be assisted by local coaches Benson Mhlongo and Herold Legodi.

The 54-year old Swedish coach joins the club with an extensive knowledge and experience in football having been in the industry for over 20 years.

Here are 10 things to know about him:

  1. Jonevret was Born in Stockholm, Sweden on 28 June 1962
  2. He is a former player who plied his trade in the Swedish premier league for 13 years
  3. He played for Swedish premier league clubs AIK and Viking FK
  4. He retired from the game in 1992
  5. Made his way up the ranks going on to coach the biggest clubs in Sweden – AIK and Djurgardens IF
  6. He led Djurgadens IF to league and cup success in 2005 and was later named Coach of the Year
  7. After spending four seasons with Djurgadens IF, he moved on to Norway to coach Molde FK
  8. He was voted Coach of the Year in 2009 for his time at Molde FK.
  9. Jonevret was assistant coach of the Swedish national team in 2011/12
  10. Currently holds a UEFA Pro License.
